Which has a cheeky glass of wine over a Friday night, or on your lunch break with colleagues, if you are one of the 10 million Brits who smoke, you'll know there are many opportunities to light. The first few weeks after stopping smoking are usually the most challenging and it's safe to state that it usually takes at least 8-12 weeks before a person begins to feel comfortable with the new lifestyle change of being an ex-smoker. Drawback from nicotine, an addictive drug found in tobacco, is characterized by symptoms that include headache, stress and anxiety, nausea and a craving to get more tobacco. Cigarette smoking creates a chemical substance dependency, so that the body evolves a need for a certain degree of nicotine all the time. Unless that level is retained, the body will start to go through withdrawal much like alcohol addiction withdrawal. For tobacco users trying to quit, symptoms of drawback from nicotine are annoying and difficult, but only temporary. Most withdrawal symptoms peak 48 hours once you stop and are completely eliminated in six months.
One reason people smoking would be that the nicotine helps them relax. Once you give up, you will need new ways to unwind. There are many options. You may exercise to blow off heavy steam, listen in to your chosen music, hook up with friends, treat yourself to a massage, or make time for a spare time activity. Stay away from stressful situations during the first couple of weeks after you give up smoking.
People often said that they didn't remember making a ‘decision' to smoke cigarettes; it was just something that they among others around them ‘performed'. Smoking often became completely ingrained in their exercises; some found they couldn't really focus on their work without a cigarette or relied on regular cigarette breaks. Gareth, who's an musician, would take a cigarette break to check out his work. Angela experienced regular cigarette breaks at the call centre where she functioned.
Everybody thought I must be pregnant. Every evening I dreamt I was smoking, and woke defeated and shamed. The dreams were so real it was baffling. I thought no triumph, so when my landlord succumbed following a few days of abstinence, neither of us mentioned it. Yet after the first misunderstanding my sense of success was so life-affirming. I no more concerned about my health. I forgot about smoking.
Actually as well there was a, one of the other reasons as well, was that there was a rumour, possibly started out by one of the mates, I don't know, or it's possibly something they read or noticed or a friend of a pal told them, you understand, that kind of… sort of tenuous hyperlink, but there was a rumour that each millionth pack or every millionth cigarette they made acquired cannabis in it. And so, on the streets of, you know, on the High Streets of, of the United Kingdom every millionth Blessed Strike was a joint, and so it became, you understand, we bought these on just on the strange chance we may get the one with the joint in it. I don't know, I can't remember easily actually presumed that or not. Because it's definitely not true, but that was, I recall talking about that quite long and hard when we were first getting Lucky Strikes, but I am hoping I didn't imagine it. Nonetheless it would be funny easily did.
